Writer Brun introduces McQueen in an 11-page essay before presenting his life in five chapters - The Pursuit of Speed, The Body as a Tuned Machine, Speed and the Silver Screen, Racing is Life and McQueen's Garage. The five sections cover all aspects of McQueen's life, beginning with his hubcap-stealing teenage days and ending with the posthumous sale at auction of many of his vehicles. The well-chosen, never-seen-before snaps of McQueen take us in an engaging detail through the numerous movies and races the icon has been a part of. The images, which have been reproduced on matte paper gives a real 'behind the scenes' feel to the document and depicts the essence of Steve McQueen and what made him tick.
