The crore-rupee onslaught (Part I)

The fuel prices may be rocketing skyward with every passing quarter, but that doesn’t stop the automotive aficionados from pursuing their dream of buying the car that sets their pulse racing. Gautam Singhnia, the founder of India’s foremost supercar club rightly says that most people don’t buy sports cars to show off in public but for the sheer love for those machines. And this very love is at an all time high now with some of the biggest carmakers in automotive history identifying India as a serious market.

Proof? In the last five months alone, we have seen the launch of more than ten cars that attract a price tag of over Rs 1-crore! And this figure comes in at a time when 2011 hasn’t even hosted an esteemed auto show like the Auto Expo – a place where most carmakers decide to unveil their strategically important vehicles for India.

Countries like Japan and a few from Europe, which are home to some of the finest cars, are looking at de-motorisation in favour of public transport. But India on the other hand is getting ready to embrace the next level of automobiles and allied technology. We have the money and more importantly, the passion. And thus begins the crore-rupee onslaught on the Indian car market...

Browse through the next set of pages as we give you a brief look at the crore-rupee marvels that hit Indian shores so far this year.

The LED treatment indeed makes the new S-class look cheap. The new A8 L looks so much better.

So the R8 must be earned and not gifted, but an F430 can be gifted? Nope, I'm talking about receiving ;) . I gotta stop visiting Oncars, makes me feel I'm 10 notches below poverty line :(
