2012 BMW 3-Series launched in India at Rs 28.90 lakh

After attracting a lot of buzz and speculation since the last few months, the highly anticipated 2012 BMW F30 3-Series has finally marked its entry into the Indian market today at an event held in Mumbai. 

The new 6th generation 3-Series is being offered with both, petrol and diesel powertrains. Keeping in mind, the increased demand for diesel powered cars, BWM has introduced the diesel variant in four trim levels - BMW 320d,  BMW 320d Sport Line, BMW 320d Luxury Line and BMW 320d Luxury Plus. The petrol variant however, will only be available in one trim level, i.e. BMW 328i Sport Line.

The petrol variant, which constitutes of the 328i variant is being powered by a TwinPower 4-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 248PS of max power and 350Nm of max torque. The 0 to 100 kmph mark is achieved in just 6.1 seconds with a top speed of 250 kmph. Company claimed fuel efficiency is 14.79 kmpl.

The diesel variant, which constitutes of the 320d variants is being powered by a 4-cylinder, twin-turbocharges diesel powerplant that churns out 187PS of max power and 380Nm of max torque. The 0 to 100 mark is achieved in just 7.6 seconds with a top speed of 235 km/h. Company claimed fuel efficiency is 18.88 kmpl.

Both the variants, the 328i and the 320d will come mated to an 8-Speed automatic transmission with closely-spaced gear ratios that promises to utilize the optimum revving range of the engine at almost all speeds, enabling increased performance and fuel efficiency. The new 3-Series is a rear-wheel drive car with a ground clearance of 140mm. Dimensionally, the new F30 sedan measure 4,624mm in length, 1,811mm in width and 1,429mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,810m and wheelbase of 2,810mm.
