The concept SUV will be seen in production-ready avatar by the end of 2012; will hit the streets by 2015.

2012 Beijing Auto Show - Lamborghini Urus SUV unveiled

Lamborghini Urus SUV concept or ‘LB736’ has finally taken its first official bow at the on-going 2012 Beijing Auto Show.

Since, we already know from the official images, which were leaked on the web just two days back that Urus SUV concept looks gorgeous, stunning and stands for everything that is Lamborghini, lets us take you through the full specifications of the concept model.

The Urus SUV concept has been built on the same platform as the Bentley EXP 9 F study and the next-gen Volkswagen Touareg, Porsche Cayeen and the Audi Q7. Standing 1,660mm tall, 4,990mm long and 1,990mm wide, the Lamborghini Urus SUV concept is longer and wider than the BMW X6 by 120mm and 16mm respectively and stretches by 203mm than the Lamborghini Aventador. However, the concept model is shorter than the X6 by 30mm.

The carmaker is still keeping the engine specs to themselves, however the company says that the SUV will deliver close to 600PS of max power and will have the lowest CO2 emissions figure in its class. That said, rumors are rife about the SUV packing a new bi-turbo or supercharged Audi's V8 or either a V10 engine. Whichever it is, the engine will transmit its power to both axles via a dual-clutch gearbox and a permanent four-wheel drive transmission with traction control.

The company claims that the class-leading CO2 emissions target will be achieved by the lightweight design philosophy, which will be implemented not only in the chassis and the bodywork, but will also be carried in the interiors as well - through the use of what Lamborghini calls 'innovative' carbon fiber technologies. This will also help in achieving a low center of gravity and improved handling. The form of the SUV remains aerodynamically refined, with the upper edge of the rear windshield acting a deflector that diverts the airflow along the rear windshield and onto the adjustable spoiler.

The all-new 24-inch wheels sport a double-spoke design and forged from matte-finish aluminum. Five carbon fiber winglets optimise ventilation. There are no conventional exterior mirrors, instead small and aerodynamically optimised camera monitors traffic condition behind the SUV. These images are displayed via two TFT screens positioned on the left and right of the cockpit.

As has long been the tradition at Lamborhgini, the name of the SUV 'Urus' has been derived once again from the world of bulls. 'Urus,' also known as 'Aurochs' is one of the large, wild ancestors of domestic cattle. Urus bulls could measure upto 1,800mm at the shoulder. The Spanish fighting bull, as bread for the past 500 years, is still very close to the Urus in its appearance.

This is also the first modern Lamborghini that has been designed to seat four passengers instead of just two.

Oh and Lamborghini has also mentioned that a rolling prototype of the Urus SUV will be presented sometime later this year and the model will be launched in the market by 2015. Guess, until that happens we will have to live with these first official images of the Urus.
