Peugeot’s compact crossover study will take on the Ford EcoSport and the Renault Duster if it makes it into production.

Peugeot has unveiled a compact crossover study at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show, calling it the Urban Crossover Concept. The vehicle is targeted towards the urban inhabitants and is therefore compact and stylish. It is conceived by Peugeot’s teams in Paris, Shanghai and Sao Paulo and the carmaker claims that the stress was on designing a crossover that is agile, multi-purpose and one that has a confident styling. Therefore the concept has styling cues from the Peugeot 3008 and the SXC Concept that was shown at last year’s Shanghai Motor Show.

Though there is no word on the mechanicals that underpin the concept, the Peugeot Urban Crossover Concept’s 4140mm length and 1740mm height put it in line with the Ford EcoSport and the Renault Duster – and therefore we expect some frugal, small-displacement engine to power the concept (if at all).

Though the French carmaker hasn’t created any big noise about it, we believe that Peugeot will put this concept into production sooner or later. With the Indian buyers getting inclined towards compact crossovers and Ford and Renault having announced their plans for this segment, we hope Peugeot does put this concept into production and bring to India in the future.
