The all-new Hyundai Santa Fe makes its first appearance at the 2012 New York Auto Show; could come to India sooner or later.

Hyundai has revealed the all the new 2013 Santa Fe at the 2012 New York Auto Show a few moments back. As compared to the current Santa Fe sold in India, the new model incorporates the Fluidic Sculpture design philosophy of the new generation Hyundai cars. However, unlike the newly launched Sonata in India which has its fluidic design inspired by the flow of water, the new Santa Fe’s design is inspired by the ‘strong and dynamic images created by nature during the formation of storm’. In simple terms, the lines and creases that you see on the new Santa Fe are more aggressive than most of the other Hyundai cars.
What you see then are new headlights, a redesigned grille with chrome treatment, a humongous set of fog-lights that also incorporate day-time-running LED lights and black cladding that underscores the entire body of the new Santa Fe to make it more appealing to the European consumers. The taillights are laden with LEDs and are a major departure from the current Santa Fe’s design. The twin-tailpipes are trapezoidal in shape and are incorporated within the black cladding on the bumper. Overall, the stance of the new Santa Fe has been given a more premium touch as is evident in the photos.

The Santa Fe will be available in five and seven seater versions. The oily bits include a revised 2.2-litre diesel engine, which now boasts of being cleaner by bringing down the CO2 emissions to 145 g/km. The engine puts out 200 PS of power and 431 Nm of torque as compared to the current engine’s output of 197 PS and 420 Nm. Hyundai claims the fuel efficiency has been improved as well. Other engines options include a smaller 2.0-litre diesel mill and a 2.4-litre GDi petrol – the same engine that powers the Hyundai Sonata that we recently reviewed.
In spite of the being unveiled at the 2012 New York Motor Show, the 2013 Santa Fe shown today is actually the model that is heading to Europe. Interestingly, the Santa Fe that is sold in India is the European model too – so it is safe to speculate that the new Santa Fe unveiled today, could come to India sooner or later. Stay tuned for more from the New York Motor Show!
