The Active Tourer Concept previews the BMW 1-series based Gran Turismo; goes FWD!

BMW revealed the Active Tourer Concept at the Paris Motor Show, which is essentially a tall boy that is five inches taller and one inch longer than the 1-series hatchback. The Active Tourer draws heavy design inspiration from the 1- and the 3-series, inclining towards the latter with its aggressive front fascia. The rear-three quarter looks like a typical BMW crossover.

Under the hood is a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged engine mated to a lithium ion battery pack. The setup is good for over 190 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque. The concept is said to achieve a 0-100 km/h sprint in less than eight seconds with a top whack of 200 km/h. The big news though is the fuel economy – which stands at over 40 kmpl! The bigger news is that the Active Tourer breaks the BMW protocol by using a front-wheel-drive configuration.

There is word that the Active Tourer Concept previews the 1-series Gran Turismo version that is expected to make its debut in a few months from now.
