Based on the flexible MQB platform, the 7th gen Golf shares its underpinning with the Audi A3.
It's the time of the year when people turn their heads towards Paris not for fashion but for cars. The Paris Motor Show is here and like so many other important announcements being made, here's the one from the German manufacturer Volkswagen.
They have unveiled the next generation Golf (Seventh generation; based on the MQB platform). The new carries the same look as the other members of the family but this, true to it's identity, is sportier looking than the rest of the lot. When compared to the car it succeeds, the new Golf is 0.5 inch wider and 0.8inch lower but carries a whole 2.3" longer wheelbase and 220 pounds (that is almost a 100 kilograms!) worth of weight saving. On the inside, the new and better theme continues with the new dashboard that is tilted towards the driver, a flat bottom steering wheel and a new touchscreen based infotainment unit.

The engine options included a 1.2L 84bhp TSI and a 1.4L 138bhp TSI petrol motors. Diesel lovers will have two options to choose from too: 1.6L 103bhp TDI and 2.0L 148bhp TDI. Wait till the next summer and a Bluemotion version of the 1.6L diesel will follow soon. Other details will be made available soon.
The car goes on sale in January next year but it could take another year for it to reach India. Better late than never.
