The Street concept features a 220PS, 2-litre turbocharged engine; will enter production by the end of 2013.

Worthersee in Austria is one city that has been hosting the annual gathering of Volkswagen GTI enthusiasts for more than three decades. Each year, fans from all over the world gather to see some pretty wacky and exciting concepts being unveiled by Volkswagen itself, and this year’s show is no exception. The German carmaker showed off a beefed up Polo WRC Street concept to lure the fans.
As the name suggests, the Polo WRC has links to the carmakers’ motorsport division who are all set to mark Volkswagen's entry into the World Rally Champion in 2013. The WRC Street concept sports a 2-litre, turbocharged engine that puts out 220PS of power. The car also gets a wide-body kit and oversized wheels to make it look beefier.

It’s possible that European motorists can expect to see a version of the Polo R WRC Street concept on the road next year to celebrate VW’s long-awaited return to international rallying. It probably won’t have the GTI’s 2.0TSI engine, but it should be a fun addition to the VW fleet.
