BMW may consider offering the xDrive variants (All-wheel-drive) in India, to compete with the Audi Q3.

2013 BMW X1 launched in US, may come to India soon

BMW unveiled the new 2013 X1 compact crossover for the first time at the New York Auto Show, last month. The smallest of the BMW crossovers is available in Europe, India and many other markets for a while, but has now debuted in US with the facelift. The German auto major has made subtle changes to the X1 for the MY (model year) 2013, which will soon replace the existing model in the other markets.

Visual design tweaks in the 2013 BMW X1 comes from the revised headlight housings, a redesigned front bumper, a large double-kidney grille, and sleeker looking mirror housings. On the inside, nothing much has changed except for the addition of some new materials, colours and trim options and sizable helpings of electroplated trim on the console and the shifter.

BMW offers both sDrive (rear-wheel drive) and xdrive (all-wheel-drive) petrol variants with a choice of two engine options, in the American market. The sDrive28i and xDrive28i are powered by four-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol that delivers 240PS and 353Nm of torque. While the X1 i35 is the 6-cylinder variant which comes in all-wheel-drive only option that produces 300Ps and 406Nm of torque. All the variants of the 2013 X1 are available only with an automatic transmission. BMW will also be offering two separate lines for the X1, xLine and SportLine, as well as an M Sport package in US.

Although, only the petrol variants of the new X1 have been launched in US, it won’t be the same when facelift is made available in other markets. The facelift version will also get diesel mills when the X1 is launched in Europe and India – probably by end of this year. We are also expecting BMW to launch the xDrive variants here, mainly to compete with the soon to be launched, Audi Q3, that will be available with all-wheel-drive.
