The rugged Cross Up! will hit the showrooms in Europe in the next couple of months.

Volkswagen has showcased the production model of the high-riding Cross Up! at the ongoing 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Based on the company’s popular little city car – the Up!, this all-new version is more of a rugged offering with its sturdy looking roof rails, plastic wheel arch protectors and bigger 16-inch alloy wheels shod in meaty 185/50 tires.
Inside, the only visual addition comes in the form of revised upholstery and door sills with ‘Cross Up!’ branding. The rest of the interior remains the same as the standard model. Underneath too, the Cross Up! gets the same 75PS, 1-litre, 3-cylinder engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox which sends power to the front wheels.

The Cross Up! goes on sale in Europe in a few months time. Volkswagen India, meanwhile, is expected to launch the Up! small car by end-2013 or early-2014. Also, given the rugged nature of the Cross Up! Volkswagen Indian could also consider bringing it in besides the standard model.
