The redesigned Accord will go on sale by end of 2012 in the international market; expected to arrive in India by early-2013.
A couple of months back we spoke about the 2013 Honda Accord when the sedan and coupe test mules were caught on cam in the United States. We also mentioned that the current Accord, which is ageing since its launch in 2008, may be up for a small facelift yet again until the all new model comes out. But it seems that Honda is all ready with new Accord – which goes on sale in the American market later this year. We speculate an early-2013 launch for the Indian market – considering Honda India is still managing decent sales of its petrol luxury sedan.
Honda has only taken the wraps off the exterior design of the 2013 Accord for now; and are calling it the most sculpted and dynamic Accord ever. Well, in a passing glance, the 2013 model will appear to be just a mere facelift of the current model – but look closely and you’ll spot the differences. Though the face is a minor evolution of the current design, the headlights are distinctive with stylish LED daytime-running-lights, projector beam headlamps (that were also spotted on the test mules), a honeycomb mesh on the air-dams and sleeker fog lamps. The windshield sweeps further backward to reduce the aerodynamic drag and improve on fuel economy.

The 2013 Accord also has a more pronounced belt-line, which looks like a result of the increasing heat (especially in the American market) from the new Sonata and the sculpting seen on the fluidic design language. The rear-end looks like a more sophisticated version on the upcoming Camry’s tailgate – particularly due to the shape of the taillights. The all-LED treatment looks good in the images at least, while the shape of the boot-lid and the twin-tailpipes (for the V6 model only, in all probability) is trademark Honda Accord design.

Honda will only reveal the oily bits closer to the American launch. Since the US-spec Accord is much similar to the one that is sold in India, we are eager to know what Honda plans for our market too. A diesel version could be on the cards to counter the Skoda Superb, but with the new Toyota Camry and the Hyundai Sonata being available only in petrol for now, Honda India may not delay the launch of the 2013 Accord until a diesel version is ready.
Watch this space as we bring you more information on the new Honda Accord.
