Borrows engine and equipment from the Range Rover Evoque; gets new colours inside out.
Land Rover has officially revealed the 2013 Freelander 2 – and in a passing glance, the vehicle doesn’t look too different than the current model. However, Land Rover quickly points out that there are quite a few significant changes to the 2013 model.

To begin with, the Freelander 2 now has new headlights and taillights. Though the layout is quite similar to what you see on the current generation model, the 2013 Freelander 2 makes generous use of LEDs – which give the vehicle a fresher look. We also like the new daytime-running-lights for their unconventional design. The new model also dons 17-inch, 10 spoke alloy wheels. Land Rover is also offering the 2013 Freelander 2 with additional colour options – including the shade of blue that you see here.

On the inside, passive start replaces the key dock and the centre console gets a cleaner design with reduced clutter. The Freelander 2 also gets voice activation for the infotainment system and now includes a reverse parking camera as standard equipment.
The big change though, is under the hood. Since downsizing is the mantra in recent times, the Freelander 2 now replaces the six-cylinder Si6 petrol engine with the four-cylinder turbocharged Si4 mill that propels the Evoque. The Si4 GTDi engine is not only lighter, but also produces more power than the Si6 while being greener and more fuel-efficient.

Frankly, the engine change isn’t significant for the Indian market since the Freelander 2 sold here is only available with a diesel engine. However, the revised styling and the new equipment will make its way onto the India-spec Freelander 2 by early 2013.
"The Freelander 2's equipment levels bring a more premium look and feel to the overall driving experience. In addition, our customers continue to benefit from our refined and economical range of diesel engines and can now opt for the powerful and highly efficient new Si4 GTDi petrol," says John Edwards, Land Rover Global Brand Director.
