The new Superb takes heavy inspiration from the MissionL and VisionD concepts; ends up looking like an Audi.

A little while back, we reported about the Skoda Yeti’s facelift that was caught on test in some snowy region – hiding its front and back end behind some funky camouflage. Now spy shots of the Superb facelift too have hit the internet and since there is no camouflage on this one, the shape of the headlights, taillights, bumpers and the boot-lid is clearly visible.

The spy shots have originated from China, where the Shanghai-Volkswagen joint venture partners are testing the Superb facelift before they put it into production by late 2013. As you can see in the photo above, the headlights could get an edgier design as compared to the ones on the current model. They are shaped like a ‘comma’ as you see on the current model too, however the notch at the bottom seems to have been extended further towards the grille. On the front bumpers, the shape of the fog-lamp surrounds seems sharper too – but that could be purely because of the angle of the car in the photograph. The outside rear-view mirror mounted turn blinkers seem to have been redesigned too and seem smaller and triangular in shape as compared to the current model’s linear strip.

The bonnet seems to be carried over from the current model – however, we expect the MissionL inspired hood to make it on to the production model of the 2013 Skoda Superb. The side profile seems more or less similar to the current Superb with no noticeable changes.

The tailgate seems to have gotten a major makeover from what we see in the photo above. The taillights are very much like the new Volkswagen Jetta and the refreshed Audi A6. The taillights in these photos look awkwardly big – but that could be due to some additional reflective strips that Skoda might have pasted on the back to mislead the spy-photographers. The A6 connection is highlighted further with the prominent crease that runs between the two taillights and creates the ‘step’ effect. The redesign has also moved the position of the registration plate from the rear bumper on to the boot-lid. The rear bumper also gets new reflective strips at either ends to prevent the bumper from looking empty. The new design of the tailgate definitely looks smart and up-to-date – but looks a lot busier than the one on the current model. It will be interesting to see how Skoda places the ‘Superb’ emblem, now that the license plate has barged into its territory.

The 2013 Skoda Superb facelift is expected to hit the European market by early 2013 while the Indian model is expected to be updated by the second quarter of 2013. Stay tuned to OnCars as we try to dig out more info of the Superb facelift.
