Based on Volkswagen’s flexible MQB platform, the luxury MPV will be slated below the A4 sedan.
Audi seems to be taking a more sensible approach to the budget end of the entry-level luxury car market with an all-new MPV which is currently in the works. To be launched in 2016, this new model will allow Audi to step into a new market segment that is aimed at customers looking for a premium family vehicle at a sensible price point.
Based on VW’s highly flexible MQB platform, the MPV will come with a 7-seater layout and will feature both front-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations. In order to keep the length in check, the MPV will be powered by a range of transverse engines to cut down the length. Such layout of engines will also result in more cabin space as transversely mounted units take up less space in the engine bay.

The MPV is likely to be powered by Audi’s current range of TFSI and TDI motors although there will also be a hybrid version for some markets. When launched in Europe, it will go up against the highly popular Ford S-Max.
Now that Mercedes has launched the B-Class in India, we expect Audi to follow a similar route when the MPV eventually gets production ready.
