BMW 3-Series hatchback in works; could debut in 2013

The three German arch rivals, BMW, Audi and Mercedes Benz are all extensively looking to explore the small car segment, precisely in the Rs 25 to Rs 30 lakh price bracket.

And in this endeavor, we already know that Mercedes Benz will roll out the much-awaited A-Class hatchback in early 2013 and Audi will get along the A3 sedan, also sometime in 2013. BMW, on the other hand was understood to have started work on the 1-Series sedan based on the 1-Series hatch that is expected to be ready by 2015. 

However, according to latest round of reports BMW apart from the 1-Series sedan is also gearing up to introduce an all-new BMW 3-Series hatchback, which will of course be based on the recently launched 2012 BMW F30 3-Series sedan in India. The surprise 3-Series hatchback is expected to hit the market as soon as 2013 and will compete with the upcoming Mercedes Benz A-Class and the Audi A3.
