As per a global brand study by Clear these luxury carmakers are among top 10 brands in India.

A global brand study conducted by Clear (part of M&C Saatich group) report that the German luxury car brands BMW, Audi and Mercedes are among the top 10 most desired brands in India. According to survey 10 most desired brands in India are: Microsoft, BMW, Google, Apple, Adidas, Mercedes, Audi, Disney, Sony and IBM. The study included interviews with over 22,000 people, covering 555 brands including 6 global markets, which comprised 5,000 consumers in China and India.
The highest selling luxury carmaker, BMW, is ranked second; while Mercedes is ranked sixth followed by Audi in seventh. While, most of these are brands are relatively new to Indian market, Mercedes has been around for a much longer, especially if compared with the other two Germans. All three brands are status symbols in India and none of the other brands in India are expected to pose a threat to them in near future. Tata owned Jaguar is the only brand that competes with them in the global market, however, the brand is yet to gain recognition here, as only their selected cars are available here and those too are tad bit expensive due to CBU operations.
Clear Singapore MD Charlotte Wilkinson said, "Our research into what drives Brand Desire reveals what makes brands more successful than others in these two markets (India and China), and indeed around the world. While India and China have much in common in seeking out branded goods and services, the secrets of brand success seem to lie in a deeper understanding of the differences".
