The cut-price variant is likely to be called the Micra Active.

In spite of featuring impressive levels of space and comfort and economical pair of engine options, the Nissan Micra hasn’t been selling as well as expected for some time now. Which is why Nissan is readying a low-cost version of the Micra which will sit a notch below its segment and take on the likes of Hyundai i10 and the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R.
Certain features will be omitted from the standard Micra, which will probably include revised NVH package, meaning the cut-price Micra’s cabin wouldn’t be as refined as the former. Also, safety features such as the driver side airbag and the engine immobilizer could be given a miss to in order to bring the price down significantly.
The cut-price Micra is expected to cost around Rs 30-50,000 less than the current entry-level petrol variant, and could be launched before mid-2013.
