The Sunny XV Special Edition gets more features, creature comforts and a higher price tag.

The Nissan Sunny has been doing rather well for the carmaker. The Sunny, in fact, sells better than the Micra hatchback. However, with competition like the Tata Manza Club Class and the 2013 Volkswagen Vento increasing the heat, its time for the Sunny to make itself a more attractive package than its rivals.

Touchscreen equipped infotainment systems seem to be the ‘in thing’ today with almost all mid-size sedans offering these as integrated or aftermarket fitments – the Fiat Linea Absolute, the Honda City with AVN, the Manza Club Class and the upgraded Vento being the recent examples. The Sunny won’t lag behind either as the new special edition model brings a new 2-DIN Kenwood infotainment system to the table. It replaces the current audio system, which is only compatible with radio, compact disc audio and auxiliary input. The new system adds DVD & USB compatibility, satellite navigation and Bluetooth phone pairing for audio streaming and telephony. The player supports DivX, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and DVD video formats.

Also on offer is beige leather upholstery to add a more premium feel to the interiors. The exteriors get body-coloured rub rails, a boot-lip spoiler and chrome garnish on the boot. The rear bumper gets a reversing camera as well.

The Sunny Special Edition will be sold as an upgraded version of the XV trim, in both petrol and diesel options. Since the vehicle is mechanically unchanged, it will continue to be propelled by a choice of 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. The Nissan Sunny XV Special Edition will be launched on February 13, 2013. The pricing will be as follows:

Nissan Sunny XV Special Edition (Petrol): Rs 8.6 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai)

Nissan Sunny XV Special Edition (Diesel): Rs 9.86 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai)
