The team will go on to represent Mumbai in the national finals in October.
While the teams were battling it out on the miniature racetrack, hundreds of fellow students and enthusiasts, gathered around to cheer their favorites. In the end, it was ‘Flying Pistons’ from St. Andrew’s college, who took home victory and were the fastest team of the day at the Red Bull Racing Can held in Jai Hind College on Saturday.
The event held in Mumbai showcased creativity at its best as participants raced radio-control cars with their body work made entirely from Red Bull cans. Weeks before the Mumbai finals, participants worked on their machines demonstrating F1 style precision and tuning the tiny engines to speed demons. The teams then impressively showed off their skills with the most innovatively kitted cars.
The start of the event saw a total of 24 teams battling it out on the track, with the winners moving ahead to face the heat in semi finals. However, the challenge was not only to be the first to cross the finish line but the racing cans with cool designs and steady machines also earned points. Their racing feat and designing capabilities were judged by one of the teachers of Jai Hind College - Neetal Kothari and celebrity tattoo artist, sculptor and painter - Al Alva.
The ‘Flying Pistons’ from St. Andrew’s College was the fastest team from Mumbai. Rhett Rego and Daniel D’ Souza from the team will go on to represent Mumbai in the national finals in October 2012 in Mumbai. Rounding off the top podium positions were ‘Blitzkrieg’ and ‘Black’.
Winning the city finals, ‘Flying Pistons’ will now go against winners from Pune, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata, for the title of India’s Red Bull Racing Can Champion and go on to participate against 24 other nations at the Red Bull Racing Can World Finals in Brazil.
