Ford's domestic sales down 14 per last month

Exports up by 54 per cent to 1,693 units in May; Ford plans to ramp up diesel capacity.

Ford sales dropped by 14 per cent in May in line with the overall negative sentiments in the automobile industry. The company sold 6,036 units in the domestic market last month, as against 7046 units in May 11. The total sales last month stand at 7,729 units, with 54 per cent hike in exports.
“Despite the challenging market conditions, Ford is confident in the long-term future of the automotive market in India. We will continue investing to expand manufacturing and retail capacity in order to bring more great value-for-money, fun-to-drive, fuel efficient vehicles to India,” said Michael Boneham, president and managing director, Ford India.Ford also invested USD 72 million in Chennai facility to up diesel engine production to 3,40,000 units per annum.
The ford Figo hatchback continued to clock high numbers for the company in May; however, for the first time since December Figo sales fell below 5,000 mark at 4,726 units. The company also sold 913 units if Fiesta Classic, 257 units of 2011 Fiesta and 140 units of their SUV, Endeavour.
