The sedan based on popular Brio hatchback could be positioned way below the City sedan.
Honda has some big plans rolled up its sleeve to make sure they make a comeback in the Indian auto industry with a big bang. It is no secret that Honda is developing its range of diesel engine under its new 'Earth Dreams' technology series, which was announced earlier. While, building diesel engines alone, could be Honda's golden ticket in the country, the Japanese automaker is making doubly sure that their plans for India at-least for the next four years is full proof and solid.
Just few weeks back we had reported that Honda is developing a new MPV based on the Honda Jazz platform, codenamed '2NH' that is slated to arrive in the Indian market by 2014. Then there were reports about a new MPV based on brio hatchback, which will be built in Honda's new plant in Indonesia and will be ready by 2014.
Now according to new reports, it is understood that Honda is developing a new Brio sedan, based on the Brio hatch, which is expected to be ready by 2013. Honda will position its Brio sedan way below than its hugely popular Honda City sedan, targeting the first-time new car buyers.

Adding a boot to a hatchback model, is proving to be the new age 'could-never-go-wrong' strategy in the Indian auto industry that was first started by Fiat India with its Palio-Siena combo. Then Tata Motors jumped in with their Indica-Indigo duo, followed with Maruti Suzuki's Swift-DZire combination. Soon thereafter, the Europeans came in with the Volkswagen Polo-Vento combo that was followed by its sister subsidiary, Skoda Auto with its Fabia-Rapid cars. Toyota too, created ripples in the Indian market with its Etios sedan and Etios Liva hatchback models.
Now with the new reports suggesting that Honda could also put in place the similar 'boot on a hatch' strategy and considering Honda's popularity among the Indian customers, the competition in the sedan-hatch segment is about to get much more stiffer.
It should be noted that Honda still hasn't officially confirmed anything on the subject of a Honda Brio sedan or even the Honda Brio- and the Jazz-based MPV. "We do not comment on media speculations." a Honda spokesperson said.
