The car will be pulled out of the market once the existing stock is sold out

And just like that, it’s gone. According to Autocar India, the popular executive sedan has been canned by Honda after a scant six years in production. The demise of the Civic comes at the hands of the Indian market’s immediate shift to diesel powered vehicles and (to some extent) also to the fact that the new 2012 Civic is proving to be too costly for the Japanese carmaker to bear.

Once the existing stock is cleared out, Honda will pull out the Civic from the Indian market, which is unlikely to be much of a hassle for the company given that production of the Civic stopped quite a while ago.

Honda Civic bids adieu to the Indian market

As for the successor, Honda currently has no plans to bring the 2012 Civic to India since the car has proved to be as a slight disappointment and hasn’t received much in terms of appreciation from the global audience.

It is no secret that the Civic has been putting up a rather dismal performance lately. The once-robust monthly sales evaporated pretty quickly, eventually leaving the figures down to just two-digit numbers.

The loss of the Civic after over half-a-decade of hard graft will leave a hole in Honda's lineup that, we're afraid; the 2012 model cannot quite fill. Perhaps Honda might introduce the 2012 model with a diesel engine to spice things up. What’s certain though is that the Civic is a car that deserves respect. After all, no one can really argue that it ruled the roost for a long time and ultimately had to give up the crown only in favor of many superior rivals.
