Expected to go on sale in early 2013, the Brio sedan will be the first diesel-powered Honda for the Indian market.

Earlier this month, we had reported about Honda’s plan to unveil the much talked about sedan based on the Brio by the end of November 2012. The company had also teased the upcoming sedan on their official Thai website.

Now, to keep the interest of the entire Honda loyalist going, the carmaker has released the very first image of the Brio sedan which will go on sale next year. The new Brio sedan, like the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and the Volkswagen Vento, is yet another model of the new age ‘boot on a hatch’ strategy which, incidentally, has proved to be quite a hit amongst the new car buyers.

Honda officially reveals Brio sedan

The Brio sedan will be the first diesel-powered Honda in India as the carmaker has confirmed that an all-new 1.5-litre diesel will also make its debut with the upcoming model. This new engine (based on the 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine from Honda's 'Earth Dreams' technology series) has been designed specifically for the Indian market and will eventually power a number of Hondas including the next-gen City and the Jazz.

The petrol range will be powered by the same old 90PS, 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine found in the Brio hatch. However, little is known as to whether Honda India will introduce an automatic option for the Brio sedan like it recently did with the hatchback.
