Tata’s big hatch is expected to get a more powerful engine and perhaps, a retuned suspension setup.

The Indica Vista is a no-nonsense hatchback – simple, cheap and economical, especially when compared to its direct competitors, the Maruti Swift and the Fiat Punto. The diesel Vista has same specs as the Swift, probably a bit more space and is certainly cheaper, but the numbers are still nowhere close the segments (and overall) bestseller.

The above has probably more to do with the ‘taxi’ image associated with the Indica badging; and the buyers prefer avoid buying this car for personal use. It seems, Tata is now testing a new diesel version of the Vista that is a bit sporty and powerful, specifically targeting these buyers.  Our friends at IndianAutosBlog have just spotted a Vista test mule with “Quadrajet 90” badges on it. In all possibilities this badge indicates that the 1.3-litre Fiat multijet engine under the hood is tuned to produce 90PS – same as the one used in the Fiat Punto limited edition, the Maruti SX4 and the Ertiga.

This will certainly make the car lot more powerful and also unfavourable for commercial use. If this car goes into production, only the top-end model will be made available, like the one spotted with ZX badge.

The test mule of the Vista featured added chrome bits to the bodywork and some dark pink shade coloured garnishing. Tata might have also retuned the suspension setup a bit to make the car a more fun to drive. If launched, this car won’t be as expensive as the Punto Sport, nor as sporty; in fact we think this will cost exactly as much as the top-end Swift, but will offer more power.
