Mahindra’s “compact-SUV” will be launched before the start of the festive season.

Last Friday Mahindra announced that they will be launching 6 new vehicles in India this fiscal. Though, we couldn’t name all six products, there were no doubts that the Xylo Mini and sub-four meter Verito were a part of this list.
Now, Mahindra & Mahindra’s Chief Executive (Automotive Division) Pravin Shah has told PTI that, "In the next couple of months, we will have our compact SUV and by the end of the year, we will launch the sub-four metre Verito”.
This statement does clear out few questions for us, but then again raises a few others in its place. Firstly it talks about the ‘compact SUV’, which of course is the Xylo Mini – Mahindra avoids using terms like the MUV and MPV even for the Bolero and the Xylo and hence we think this is also referred to as a “SUV”. Though, we don’t think this will have too many off-roading features, apart from high ground clearance.

Also, since no name has been disclosed in the statement, there is a possibility that this vehicle will get new name. Calling it an SUV, will also put it in the category of the Renault Duster and the Ford EcoSport; and will give Mahindra an early-bird advantage in this new segment.Mahindra plans to launch this vehicle in next couple of months, which means the ‘compact SUV’ will be here in August, just before start of festive seasons. We have caught this vehicle testing a few times and here is the latest badge, with spare wheel on the fifth-door, adding some muscle to the car.

Mahindra has also mentioned that the sub-four meter Verito will be launched by end of this year. We did talk about the Verito CS few days back, but there is a bit of confusion whether this will be a big hatchback like the Jazz or a small sedan like the Indigo CS and Swift Dzire. Although, photos don’t disclose too many details on this front, we think this is a notchback (sedan) with a small boot. Mahindra will obviously get cost benefits for the size and 1.5-litre K9K Renault diesel engine, which will then be forwarded to the customers.
We still don’t have many details regarding the Verito CS, but there is still ample time till its launch in December. So stay tuned to OnCars, as we hope to get you more dope on these products soon.
