Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton W launched in India at Rs 17.67 lakh

The first product from the Korean brand has arrived; offered in two variants - RX5 manual & RX7 automatic.

Mahindra & Mahindra's Korean subsidiary have offically made their debut in the Indian market today by introducing their first product - the all-new Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton W SUV at a starting price of Rs 17.67 lakh.

The Rexton SUV will be offerd with two trim levels- RX5 and RX7. The Rexton RX5 will feature a 5-Speed manual transmission and will retail at Rs 17.67 lakh, while the RX7 will feature an E-Tronic automatic transmission and has been priced at Rs 19.67 lakh. (Both prices are ex-showroom, Mumbai.) The Ssangyong Rexton W SUV can be had in either a 5 seater or a 7 seater configuration.

Powering the Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton W RX5 Manual variant is a 2.7-litre 5-cylinder RX270 XDi diesel engine that churns out 165PS of max power and 340Nm of peak torque, while the Rexton W RX7 Automatic variant is being powered by the same engine a 2.7-litre 5-cylinder engine but is retuned to give 187PS of max power and 402Nm of max torque and is being termed as RX270 XVT.

The top speed of the two variants is 180 kmph and 194 kmph respectively and ARAI certified mileage number stands at 12.4 kmpl and 11.18 kmpl respectively.

Some key features installed on the Rexton W SUV include, LED tail lamps, Cruise Control, Projector headlamps with L-shaped parking lamps, 10-spoke alloy wheels, chrome grille, Keyless entry, 8-way electrically adjustable driver seats with three memory presets for the sear as well as the ORVMs, rain sensing wiper, automatic headlamps, reverse parking assist, speed sensitive power steering, tilt adjust steering wheel, steering mounted audio controls, electrical sun roof, a GPS navigation system, 6.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and even a sun roof.

Safety features include ESP (Electronic Stability Program,) Hill Descent Control, Anti Rollover Protection, dual front and side airbags and an engine immobilizer.

Ssangyong Rexton SUV will be manufactured/assembled at Mahindra's Chakan plant and sales and service will be handled by existing Mahindra dealers only.

The Indian automaker is also offering a 2 year/1,00,000km warranty and an optional extended one year warranty is also being offered.

The Ssangyong Rexton W SUV will be offered with a total of four colour options - Satin White, Moondust Silver, Volcano Black and Opulent Purple.

Mahindra has stated that currently the company has the capacity to roll out 500 Rexton SUVs every month. Furthermore, the company stated that they have achieved 22 per cent localisation for the Sssangyong Rexton and even more localisation is under consideration, but it will only take shape depending upon the demand in the market for the SUV.
