Mercedes Benz India has confirmed that its newest B-Class compact sports tourer will be unveiled in the country for the very first time on 19 July 2012. The mid-size SUV that was first seen at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show is expected to officially launch in the Indian market by October 2012.

The B-Class will be offered in both the petrol and engine options and is most likely to be powered with the 1.6-litre and 1.8-litre engines and will come pre-loaded with features like Pre-Safe, Blind Spot and Lane Keeping Assist, Distronic Plus and Linguatronic.

The Mercedes Benz B-Class will be initially brought into the country via the CBU route and will later be assembled in india from 2013 at its company plant in Chakan, near Pune.

Expected to be priced under Rs 25 lakh in the Indian market, the compact sports tourer will compete wit the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3. That said, the B-class does not really have a stance of an SUV nor does it measure up to the X1 in terms of size. With its hatch design, Mercedes is catering to a different niche, that of the super-luxury hatchback consumer. But will it able to rack up the sales numbers for the company? Guess, we will know that by the end of the year.
