The GL-class finally gets an AMG treatment that turns into one of the quickest seven-seater SUVs out there.
Mercedes Benz has finally given the popular GL-class an AMG makeover. They have simply taken the recently launched 2013 GL-class, replaced its heart and guts with a 5.5-litre AMG developed V8 and have extracted over 550 PS of power and 750 Nm of torque from the eight cylinder configuration. The acclaimed AMG Speedshift seven-speed transmission helps put down all that power on to the road and manages to make the mammoth sprint from naught to 100 km/h in less than five seconds with an electronically restricted top whack of 250 km/h. Mercedes Benz has also thrown in the Start-Stop system as standard fitment for the GL63 – however, it is activated only in the Comfort mode. Taking care of the suspension damping is the AMG Ride Control sports suspension.

Visually, the GL63 differentiates itself from the stock mommy-mobile with its larger air-dams (which also get an LED brow), aluminium-finished skid plate below the front bumper, 21-inch five-spoke alloys, red brake calipers and the quad-pipes at the back. The interiors are sportier too with a new steering wheel, AMG seats and lots of black leather all around.

Mercedes Benz hasn’t announced the pricing of the GL63 yet nor have they talked about its plans for India. But given the popularity of both, the GL-class as well as the AMG line-up in India, we expect the GL63 to breathe fire on the Indian tarmac too.
