However, possibility of a diesel engine is still unknown.
Mitsubishi Motors Corp. has announced that the company will introduce the new entry-level compact car, Mitsubishi Mirage in the Japanese market on August 31, 2012. Mitsubishi had resurrected the Mirage badge, after seven years at the 2011 Bangkok Motor Show with the official unveiling of the production version of the model at the event.
The sub-compact city car caters to the requirement of an affordable entry-level model in the fast-growing emerging nations and as well as eco-car requirements in advanced countries. The car is already being produced and sold in Thailand and will shortly be introduced in other developing nations in Asia, including India and China and will later enter the European market.
For the India-spec Mirage, we expect the Japanese Domestic Market or JDM version to make it into the county by early 2013. The JDM-spec Mirage is equipped with a new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder MIVEC petrol engine that churns out close to 82PS of max power and 100Nm of max torque and we expect to see the same engine configuration to come to India as well. The engine will come mated to a 5-Speed manual CVT gearbox.
The company claimed fuel efficiency is 27.2kmpl on the Japanese cycle. In India, the Mirage will compete with the likes of Hyundai i10, Chevrolet Beat, Maruti Suzuki A-Star and the Ford Figo.
For its Mirage's intentional ambitions, Mitsubishi will ramp up the production capacity of its plant in Thailand to 200,000 units a year by the end of next year. The Japanese company aims to built a manufacturing facility in China as well.
