The new Chevrolet Captiva SUV that was unveiled at the 2012 Auto Expo has now been officially launched in India for a starting price of Rs 18.74 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). This facelift version of the crossover was caught several times in last few months, however there were no details available from General Motors regarding the launch date. The new Captiva facelift is now silently launched by the company with a new engine option, which was also disclosed earlier this year.
The Captiva will now be available with 2 engine options. While the company has retained the earlier 2.0-litre VCDi I-4 diesel engine, this Chevy will also be available with a new 2.2-litre diesel mill producing 184PS and a solid 424Nm of torque. The new engine is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox; however the older engine with power rating of 148PS and 320Nm torque, still gets the five-speed manual.

The 2012 Captiva facelift comes with a new front end based on the GM’s new design theme. This vehicle gets a large grille, boxier headlights and redesigned bumpers, along with new clear-lens tail lamps. The interiors are also tweaked quite a bit and look more spacious than before, with seating capacity for 7 (2 + 3 + 2). The new Captiva comes with features like cruise control, electric parking brake, AC vents for third row, rain sensing wipers, sunroof and loads of safety features with ABS – EBD and six airbags.
The SUV comes to India as a CBU and hence the prices are relatively higher as compared to the others in the segment. GM has no plans of starting CKD operations of the SUV and hence teh cost won’t come down anytime soon.
