The compact crossover will get minor upgrades and probably four-wheel drive to compete with the Audi Q3.

New 2013 BMW X1 facelift caught testing in India

BMW for the first time unveiled the X1 in US at the New York Auto Show earlier in April. The compact crossover that is now on sale there is actually slightly different than the model already available in Europe and other markets including India. We had then confirmed that the American version of the X1 will be the facelift model for Europe and India.

As the Audi Q3 launch dates and rest of the details were made available we were sure that launch of the BMW X1 will be hastened, as the new Audi had the potential to dethrone BMW as the largest selling luxury carmaker in the country. Our belief has been cemented by the latest photos from our friends at Team-BHP, who has clicked the new X1 near ARAI facility in Pune.

If the looks of the new X1 to be launched in India are exactly same as the one in US, then they’re very limited design tweaks to the new model. The facelift has revised headlight housings, a redesigned front bumper, a large double-kidney grille, and sleeker looking mirror housings. On the inside, nothing much has changed except for the addition of some new materials, colours and trim options and sizable helpings of electroplated trim on the console and the shifter.

BMW offers both sDrive (rear-wheel drive) and xdrive (all-wheel-drive) petrol variants with a choice of two engine options, in the American market. The power is sent to wheels through 8-speed Steptronic AT, which will probably be a part of the facelift package. Of course, for both India and Europe, the diesel 2-litre will be offered, what need sto be checked though is whether BMW offers the xdrive in India to compete with the Audi Q3.
