The high performance AMG version of the C-Class will lose the current 6.2-litre unit in favor of an all-new twin-turbocharged 5.5-litre V8.

Early prototypes of run-of-the-mill C-Class, which is due to be revealed at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show are already out and have been caught on camera quite a few times. Although the car will be on sale only by early 2014, what interests us is the fact that Mercedes has already started testing the high performance AMG version, as can be seen from spy pictures of one of the test mules.
Though it appears that the car in images is the current C63 AMG, it is in fact the next-gen C63 AMG test mule. Case in point being, a wider front track, reworked front bumper and a slightly longer wheelbase.

Like every other upcoming AMG model, the new C63 AMG will feature a 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine instead of the current 6.2-litre naturally aspirated unit. Despite the cc deficit, this new engine produces up to 570PS of power in top state of tune and is also more powerful and economical than the outgoing 6.2-litre unit. For the C63 AMG, we expect Mercedes to tune the engine to produce over 460PS of power and loads of torque.
The next generation C Class will be unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show followed by an official launch in 2014. The C63 AMG though will not be available before early 2015.
