Fiat in talks with Premier, will supply engines for the compact SUV.

Fiat may soon sign a deal with their old partner, Premier, to supply diesel engines for the Premier Rio. The Pune-based manufacturer intends to source 1.3-litre multijet diesel engine from Fiat, so that the BSIV compliant diesel variant can be sold in the metro cities. Fiat has officially confirmed about the talks and disclosed that engine producing 75Ps – same tuning used for Maruti Swift and Tata Vista, has been requested by Premier.

Fiat refused to divulge further details regarding the numbers or tenure of contract, but assured that the announcements will be made in a month’s time. The engine will be manufactured at Fiat’s Ranjangaon facility, which also supplies 1 lakh units of the same engine to Maruti Suzuki every year.
