The model internally known as "Fefi" or "Ferrari Fighter" could be launched in 2015.

Porsche 960 "Fefi" four-door coupe in the works

According to reports emerging out of Europe, Porsche AG is mulling to launch a new four-door coupe, which will be known to the public as the Porsche 960, but internally the engineers are calling it the Fefi or Ferrari Fighter - that may seem awkward, since Ferrari does not have a four-door coupe in its portfolio. But we assume, the German automaker most probably meant that the 960 would challenge the Ferrari FF.

Based on the Volkswagen's new MSB platform, the 960 will underpin the entire Group's rear-wheel drive based cars like Volkswagen Bluesport, Audi R5, Porsche Speedster and possibly the next generation Porsche Cayman and Lamborghini Aventador successor. The interesting bit of the MSB platform is that it is quite a flexible system and can be used for a wide range of high-performance models and the engine can be mounted in the front, mid or at the rear even. Also, it can be rear- or all-wheel drive depending on the type of car it's being used for. However, the Porsche 960 will most likely be based on the MSB-M mid-engine rear-wheel drive platform.

Power to the “Fefi” will be provided by a 3.8-litre twin turbo unit generating close to 600PS of power and745Nm of torque. The Porsche 960 is expected to launch in 2015 and will be positioned above the Panamera in company's portfolio.

The news however interesting it may sound, is still speculative at this stage. But rest assured, we will get to you any concrete information on this as soon as we possibly can.
