The new supercharged engines could propel Tata's entry-level small cars.
According to our sources close to Tata Motors, it is understood that the Indian automaker is currently testing small supercharged engines, which will be housed in the current 624cc Tata Nano and the upcoming 800cc Nano and the Nano diesel. The setup that is in development consists of an electric-supercharger mated to the small engines, which will propel the Nano range of cars.

Furthermore, the supercharger is being tested for better torque delivery on the entry-level small cars. Being an electric supercharger, the setup has a lot of potential to be more efficient than a small turbocharged engine, providing significant rise in fuel economy as compared to the naturally aspirated small engines.
Since, the new electric-supercharged engine is still in its early stages of testing, we are not yet sure when or if at all, the technology will make it into the entry-level Tata cars. That said, do stay tuned to OnCars, as we dig up more for more dope regarding Tata's new technology.
