Ssangyong coming to India next year

Mahindra and Mahindra's Ssangyong to take another year to start with sales in India

Mahindra recently completed all the formalities regarding the acquisition of the Ssangyong Motors and Pawan Goenka was appointed as the Chairman for it. Pawan Goenka today said that the company will take another year to start rolling with its SUV’s for India as the market research and Assembly line development and designing plan is under process.
The two SUVs slated for India are the Korando-C and Rexton. Going by the words of the Chairman, the vehicles can be expected in India by the mid of 2012.

Currently the Korando C uses a 2.0 litre turbo diesel engine which produces 175PS of power and 360Nm of torque mated with a six speed gearbox. Korando can switch between front two wheel drive and all wheel drive systems. Packed with featurs like ESP, 6 airbags, brake assist and ABS the Korando C would cost around Rs 18 lakh and would go against the likes of Chevrolet Captiva, Honda CRV, Tata Aria and Mitsubishi Outlander.

The Ssangyong Rexton on the other hand is powered by a 2.7 litre turbocharged diesel engine which produces 164PS power and 342Nm torque. The Rexton features a permanent all wheel drive and traction control system. When launched in India, the SUV will pitch against the Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner.
