However, VW has still not made up its mind on whether to bring or not to bring the Up into the Indian market.
Few months back we had reported that Volkswagen is looking to launch its global small car, Up in the Indian market. VW had even confirmed that they are carrying out a number of feasibility tests to introduce the four-door version of the Up in India by the end of 2012. However, final decisions have not been made just yet, since VW plans to price it aggressively in order to take on the highly competitive hatchback segment.
To manage such low prices, the Up needs to be highly localized and the company has to have a complete production line set up for the Up. Now though, with the pictures of four-door Up spotted on test in Pune; it appears to be that Volkswagen India is mulling to bring the car to India.

Apart from the four-door Up with manual gearbox, VW is also testing a two-door version with automatic gearbox although it will not be launched here. Looking at the pictures, you may have already figured out that the Up, in spite of being stripped down to some level, the Up seems really up market for a budget small car.
In Europe, the two-door and four-door versions of the Up can be had in three trim levels – Take up!, Move up! and High up! It comes powered by a 1-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine tuned to produce 60PS and 75PS of max power. For the Indian market, Volkswagen might launch the four-door version with 60PS, 1-litre, 3-cylinder engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
