Volkswagen to launch the next generation Golf GTI at Geneva Motor Show

Prices start at an equivalent of Rs 20 lakh

If a practical yet fun to drive car is what you're looking for, then most of us would agree that hot hatches fit the bill perfectly. And Golf GTI is as synonymous to the 'Hot Hatch' as Google is to search engine. So after keeping the brand Golf GTI such a success for more than 30 years now, Volkswagen is ready to launch the next generation version of the same.

To be launched officially at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, bookings of the car will begin on March 5 in Germany and March 26 in the UK. The deliveries will start in June.

It will be available in two variants: the standard 220PS and the 230PS GTI Performance. Both cars use a 2.0-litre turbocharged direct injection TSI engine (petrol) and have the same torque rating of 350Nm. The standard car takes 6.5seconds to reach 100kmph, while GTI Performance is a 0.1s quicker. Top speed of the former is around 243kmph and the latter is close to 250kmph.

The car will be available with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard but if you want a very capable automatic gearbox then the six-speed DSG will also be available as an option. On the outside, as you can see in the pictures and if you remember how it looked at the Paris Motor Show, the car will look a lot sportier than the base Golf and the same continues inside too. VW tells that the prices in Germany start at an equivalent of Rs 20 lakh.
