Description
VW's small car is a big hit, and in no small part to its good looks. Quality is one of the best, and the handling is impeccable. The three-cylinder engines are frugal but the car feels underpowered. The Polo offers a big-car feel in a small-car package with a premium badge to boot.
The updated Jazz has the usual, er, jazz that accompanies a facelift: styling updates like the new front bumper and grille, and more features on the inside. However, it breaks with tradition on a crucial point - price. It costs less than its predecessor, and has thus fixed the one thing that was keeping the Jazz from selling in the numbers it should have. This practical, spacious, fuel efficient hatch has now got a price which makes it good value to buy as well.
Far and away the best looker in its segment, the Grande Punto also comes with its fair share of niggles: all except the 90hp are slow. The diesels suffer from turbo lag. There isn't as much space as we'd have liked on the inside, and the quality of some bits needs improvement. We cannot fault the ride and handling balance, however, and the way it makes us feel good whenever we so much as look at it. Especially in scarlet with those mock-Abarth alloys...
