Datsun K2

In 2012, Nissan top boss Carlos Ghosn announced plans to revive the defunct Datsun brand as Nissan low-cost sibling in developing markets like India, South-East Asia, Russia, Brazil and China. The Datsun brand will witness its first model post the revival in 2014. It will be a small car that is codenamed ‘K2’ and an early glimpse of the vehicle will be given in July 2013 by way of a concept car.

The Datsun K2 will be a B-segment offering which will compete in the Rs 3.5 to 6.5 lakh range and rival cars like the Wagon R, the Chevrolet Beat, the Hyundai i10 and the Honda Brio. It is expected to use the same 1.2-litre petrol engine that powers the Nissan Micra and plans to use the 1.5-litre dCi diesel could be on the cards too.

Interestingly, no test mules of Datsun K2 have been caught on test till date - but we believe the K2’s production model will be displayed in all its glory at the 2014 Auto Expo.
