Rating :The Force One is big, brawny and a seven seater – what more do you want from a SUV?
If you hear the words 'Force One' you may think it is something American and has something to do with the US President's aero plane. But what we have here is not a flying machine but a full-fledged SUV. But that said, if you look at the super-sized dimensions and the boxy styling of this vehicle, you will again think it is American. But no, it isn’t. It is in fact a vehicle that is inspired by a Chinese SUV, runs on a German engine and has a suspension setup that is tuned by a British firm. Nevertheless, it is built in India by Force Motors and that is a reason good enough for us to go ahead and test the vehicle! But for now, let us begin with the styling.
In a passing glance, the Force One can pass off as a Ford Endeavour to many. But look at it closely and you’ll spot enough detail to distinguish the two. The front end of the Force One for example gets headlights with a shape similar to that of the erstwhile Ford Fusion and has projector beam headlamps and day-time-running lights – these are a novelty for the segment it caters to. There is lot of chrome as well – not only on the grille, but also on the headlamp surrounds. The bumpers are large but have enough detail thanks to the fairly large fog lamp housings and the extension of the grille and flows into the bumper. There is a black coloured (aluminium-finish on the optional bull-bars accessory) skid-plate too but it isn’t remarkably visible like most other SUVs.
Move over to the side profile and you have the characteristic straight-ish lines of an old-school SUV. The flared wheel arches add muscle to the design and are complemented by the smart-looking alloy wheels. They are shod with 235-section rubber from Apollo and we recommend that you don’t upsize them or replace them with some other brand – but more on that later. The Force One has ORVM mounted turn blinkers, but instead of adding any premium value to the SUV, they look more like a Chinese aftermarket fitment. There is a side-step too since you need to climb into the SUV and this one is mounted quite high up, thanks to the 205 mm ground clearance. On the side, you’ll also notice the ‘2.2 FMTECH’ monogram which highlights the displacement of German engine that propels the Force One.
The tailgate gets big, boxy taillights and a classy roof spoiler. The bumper gets fog lights at is corners and twin tailpipes underneath. The large boot-lid opens like a hatch instead of opening like a door and I would have loved to see the spare wheel to be mounted on the boot lid than under the rear bumper for the classic SUV styling.
Nevertheless, the Force One does come across as a brawny SUV that can turn heads with its sheer size. Though old-school with its design, the first passenger vehicle from Force Motors does have street presence and gives the SUV enough ground to stand up against its competitors.
