Design Review of Ford Classic 1.4 TDCi CLXI

Rating :Ford's Fiesta Classic is still on sale despite the global Fiesta launching. Is it still a good buy?

Introduction
The Fiesta has been on sale in India for quite some time. However, with the introduction of the new global Fiesta to the Indian car market, a little shift in the product alignment was necessary for Ford India. Enter the Fiesta Classic, which retains the outgoing model but at a different price point, and with a slightly different customer in mind.

Design
The Fiesta Classic retains all the design elements of the Fiesta. Our CLXI test car is a mid-level variant, so it doesn't get the strips of chrome or the alloy wheels of the top-spec SXI. Viewed head-on there is a little aggression in the trapezoidal air dam, but that rapidly fades once you change the viewing angle to the front three-quarter. From the side it is a tradional three-box silhouette and from the rear the boot looks proportionate. It is a good looking car, this, but the adage of familiarity breeding contempt applies here. It is unfortunately too common a design for anyone to give a second glance to.

The age of the design is another minus point – in the age where prominent creases and strong lines in sheet metal are desired from even a low-cost car, the Fiesta’s smooth sides and barely-there creases aren’t aggressive enough. However, it does look fetching in select colours. If you like your sedan with the traditional look, the Classic will hit all the right notes.
