Honda Accord 2.4 Elegance MT - Design Review

Give me a car with 180PS under the hood and I would stick to the steering wheel all day. But this time around, I just don’t want to leave the backseat. It feels so nice in here. The comfort, the luxury and the space is so pampering that I wish I had a chauffeur. This is exactly how the Honda Accord starts to cast its spell on you. Of course, I have a job to do (and I cannot afford a chauffeur either) so I’ll have to leave these cosseting confines and get behind the wheel.

The current generation Accord debuted in India in 2009 and enjoys its own clientele that will settle for nothing else. Recent invasion in its sphere by the likes of Maruti Suzuki Kizashi and the new VW Passat has fastened the launch of a minor facelift that was launched in America last year. The changes are few but grant the Accord a much more premium appeal, both inside and outside. Let me introduce you to the refreshed 2011 Honda Accord.

The first thing that comes to mind when you look at the Accord is that it is massive. Park it alongside average sized sedans and it seems illegally long. Over its eight generations, the Accord has grown, and massively.  The current car is outright bulky and muscular. While the previous Accord had an aggressive and athletic stance, the new one looks like it has spent grueling hours at the gym to get some extra bulges and brawn. What immediately catches your attention is the front grille. While the previous car had a hexagonal chrome border on the grille, the new one has fat, flashy chrome strips for a posh new face.

The large wraparound headlamps cover the width of the car nicely, extending all the way to the fenders and give the car a bold face. The bumpers too have been mildly redesigned. The Accord also come with a body kitted Inspire variant, which will set you back by another Rs 83,000. In spite of all the bulk, Honda has managed to make the Accord sporty from all sides. A prominent waistline starting right behind the front fender gives the car a dynamic stance while the stylish alloy wheels too add to the sportiness. There is a lavish helping of chrome around the window frames and the large glass area signifies the room it conceals inside.

The rear remains more or less identical except for some added chrome. The large wraparound tail lamps are in keeping with the front and give everybody behind a nice stare. They also extend to the bootlid and now get a fat chrome strip below them that add some flash.
