Contrary to reports suggesting the discontinuation of the Civic brands in India, OnCars broke the news that the new 2013 Civic will make its way into India. Our sources have confirmed that the new Civic sedan is already on test at Honda’s Indian facilities and that the vehicle will be launched in India by the festive season of 2013.
The all-new Civic sedan was launched in the US market back in 2011, followed by its South East Asian launch in 2012. The US-spec version though had been upgraded again by the end of 2012 due to consumer complaints on ride quality and overall performance. The ASEAN model though, remains unchanged - and this is the same model that will make its way into the Indian market too.
Design-wise, the new Civic doesn’t look as aggressive as the current model - thanks to its Honda City inspired arrow-head styling. It isn’t a bad-looker nevertheless and has the premium poise that you expect from a Civic. The sharp, aerodynamic styling is also sportier than most other cars in the segment.
Under the hood will be a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 140 PS of power and will be sold in manual and automatic versions. The US-spec model does get a 2.2-litre i-DTEC diesel engine and the European Civic hatch gets a 1.6-litre oiler – which is essentially the same mill that is the basis of the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine that will power the upcoming Amaze. That has us hoping that the new Civic sedan that is being planned for India will get a diesel engine in the due course of its lifecycle.
Upon launch, the Civic will go head-on against its arch-rival, the Corolla and upcoming cars like the Nissan Sylphy and the all-new Skoda Octavia.
