Hyundai i20 sedan

There are quite a few premium hatchbacks in the Indian market today, but it is only the i20 that has managed to challenge the Suzuki Swift’s supremacy - thanks to its updated styling and a kit brimming with features. Hyundai has also made sure that there are innumerable variants of the i20 to choose from - making it easy (or difficult) to choose the exact bit of kit you need. Now that the car has established itself well in market, Hyundai has decided to go a notch further and take on the Swift Dzire as well.

The Korean carmaker is said to be working on a sub-four-meter sedan based on the i20 platform which will be placed between the Accent and the Verna. It will be a premium offering in the entry-level sedan space and will take on the Swift Dzire and the Tata Manza. It will get the same 1.2-litre Kappa2 petrol and 1.4-litre CRDi diesel engines that currently power the i20. The vehicle is still undergoing preliminary testing (at the time of writing this article) and is expected to be production ready by the end of 2013. Early 2014 is when we expect it to make its commercial debut.
