At the end of 2012, Fiat India officially announced that the ‘Jeep’ brand would enter the Indian market by mid-2013. The parent brand, Fiat, now owns a large stake in Chrysler and therefore has control over the sub-brand, Jeep. Fiat India tells us that by late-2013, the Jeep Grand Cherokee will make an entry into the Indian market with its new, 2014 model that was unveiled at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show.
The new Jeep Grand Cherokee’s face draws design inspiration from the Chrysler 300C - with the most significant resemblance being the headlights. The new Jeep Grand Cherokee also features a revised tailgate. However, the biggest change in the 2014 model is under the hood - a 3.0-litre V6 diesel - which is the first oil-burner to be featured in the Cherokee for the American market. Given India’s affinity for diesels, Fiat will make sure that the diesel Cherokee will be homologated first with the possibility of a petrol variant at a later stage.
Upon launch, the Cherokee will sit in the Rs 30 to 45 lakh bracket, where it will compete with the likes of the Pajero Sport, Fortuner and Endeavour on one end and the BMW X3 and Audi Q5 on the other.
