Mercedes-Benz CLA

While the war for the most economically priced luxury compact crossover is being fought by the Audi Q3 and the BMW X1, Mercedes Benz is busy establishing new segments within the Rs 20 – 40 lakh brackets. There is the B-class and the upcoming A-class and now the CLA – a compact sedan based on the same platform as the other two compacts.

The styling of the CLA is heavily inspired by the Concept Style Coupe that Mercedes Benz showcased in 2012. The front fascia is similar to that of the A-class and also gets the stunning diamond toothed grille that we first saw on the A-class concept. The tailgate is outrageous and is inspired by the CLS. The overall silhouette of the CLA-class is that of a compact, four-door coupe.

Expect the equipment and the engine options to be similar to those of the A-class and B-class that will be sold in India as the three vehicles will share platforms and assembly space and Mercedes Benz India’s Chakan facility.

The CLA debuted in all its production glory at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show and the Indian debut should happen by the end of 2013.
