Skoda Citigo

Skoda and Volkswagen’s product plans generally go hand-in-hand, at least for India, since both the carmakers share platforms to a large extent. The Volkswagen Up! that was launched globally in 2012 is already being planned for India and therefore Skoda India has confirmed that the Up! based Citigo could follow suit too.

The Citigo is a compact hatchback that will sit under the Skoda Fabia in the portfolio. However, the production cost for the model launched globally is quite high and could end up making the vehicle more expensive than the larger Fabia itself. Its the same scenario with the Up! and the Polo too. Skoda and VW are therefore working hard towards localising the components for the Citigo and the Up! to make the vehicles a viable proposition for the Indian market.

We believe that there is still some time before the Citigo gets a green light for India - but with Skoda in dire need of a mass market product in India, we believe that the Citigo’s launch is imminent. We expect the Citigo to finally hit the Indian showrooms by early or mid 2014.
