Tata Indica XL

Tata has been working on a rather unusual, long wheelbase version of the Indica for quite a while now. It isn’t a revival of the Indigo Marina station-wagon - but it looks awkwardly stretched nevertheless. Tata, it seems, is looking at giving birth to a new segment altogether with the Indica XL. Reports suggest that the Indica XL will feature three rows of seating - but the second and third rows could be facing each other. The rear door has therefore been designed wide enough to accommodate this arrangement.
Though awkwardly long, the Indica XL will still fit under four-meters in length and will therefore attract the tax benefits. It will be propelled by the same CR4 diesel engine that does duty in the Indica eV2. The Indica XL would certainly have difficulty finding love as a family car - but the fleet operator segment could benefit for such a product. There is no definitive time period for the launch of the Indica XL - but sometime in 2013 is what we can speculate at the moment.
